ACCESS RESOURCE

Light box

The aim of this project was to choose a piece of art from the National Museum of Wales, once chosen; create a prototype to accompany the chosen artwork. The piece of artwork created was made in the view of being displayed on the Museum's access trolley. The piece of art created was to be used by a visually impaired visitor group at the National Museum of Wales. Therefore, this needed to be kept in mind when planning the outcome. The piece of work was then displayed in a cabinet at the Museum.

I created a Lightbox by using plastic and wood, I sawed the pieces of wood to the correct size and nailed them together. It was important that the piece wasn't too big, the reason for this is because it needed to fit in the trolley provided by the National Museum of Wales. Once the pieces were screwed together, I then went ahead and painted the wood back. By painting it black, it allowed the image to stand out more. In order to receive the light box effect, I bought an A4 light box drawing pad. I placed this inside the Lightbox. My main concern was that the image needed to stand out, and the face was the most important aspect of the image. Therefore, I created a silhouette of the image. This allowed different layers to stand out more than others, I placed this on top of the light box pad. Acetate was used to manipulate the image; 'A Study of a Girls Head'. This was placed on top of glass, the glass was secured by pieces of plastic. a dymo maker was used to add raised writing. This was important as it allowed the group of visually impaired visitors to gain a full understanding of the piece chosen. Raised directions of how to use the Lightbox was added to the back.
