ADDITIONAL NEEDS SCHOOL
In Partnership with Hijinx
The aim of this project was to create a suitcase that would be taken to the setting; Ysgol y Deri, the suitcase would be used to hold all materials for the sessions planned. This was a group workshop which included 6 facilitators and 6 participants. As a group, we decided to create a suitcase on the theme of Neverland. The sessions were spread over a 4 week period. During the first three weeks, we facilitated 1:1 workshops with our individual participant that was assigned to us - all participants completed the same workshops. During the final week, we all had to create an element that would be used to create a Neverland story. I created 8 dressing up costumes for the participants to wear during the story, this included: lost boys, fairy's, pirate's, and adventure hats. Each element of the costumes played a part in the story, participants had the opportunity to choose what they wanted to wear as the story progressed.

This project was in partnership with a Hijinx Theatre project; Second Star to the Right. The production was based on life after Neverland, therefore we found our suitcase theme really relevant to engage the participants in to the story of Neverland. There were three schools involved in this production; Woodlands High School, Ysgol y Deri and Marion Centre, Bishop of Llandaf. All the work created throughout the four week period with the participants in each school was incorporated in the production, this celebrated their hard throughout the project. The aim of Hijinx is to work with people with and without disabilities, and support them in being involved in a theatre production and future employment. All work produced over the three settings were displayed in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay. All involved in the project were invited to the Wales Millennium centre to view the work displayed, and watch the production; Second Star to the Right. The participants from the school had the opportunity to go backstage and look at all the costumes and the set before the production. All participants were overwhelmed and excited when they saw their work within the production and displayed in the Wales Millennium Centre. This was a great project that brought many successes and achievements to all involved.
